IdeenExpo 2024 with new visitor record - ZERN was there!
Employees from the ZERN project also took part in the IdeenExpo, which took place at the Hanover Exhibition Centre from 8 to 16 June 2024. They were represented at the stand of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo) Foundation. The IdeenExpo's aim of getting young people and schoolchildren interested in scientific and technical professions was achieved with a total of 430,000 visitors. Many interested visitors came to the TiHo stand to find out more about the ZERN project and sustainable livestock farming.
The ZERN team had prepared a survey in which the young people were able to rate different forms of rearing pigs and cattle by school grade. In addition, many answered the question "How can we save the world by changing our diet?" on small sticky notes, which were stuck on the life-size (plastic) Angus bull "Nero" that they had brought with them. Even though opinions differed widely, the answers clearly showed that the topics of "nutrition" and "livestock farming" are of concern to the young people. The well-considered answers and formulated strategies for sustainability that ended up on the bull were surprising and inspiring!
The ZERN team is therefore already looking forward to the next IdeenExpo and will definitely be there again in two years' time. (Author: N. Volkmann)
