YOUNG SCIENTISTS GROUP - SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK HUSBANDRY

The research topics of the young scientists group “Sustainable Livestock Husbandry” at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo) include, above all, the specific demands of livestock on their husbandry environment, taking into account possible ecological and economic effects as well as consumer acceptance and product quality.

In order to realize sustainable livestock farming with optimal animal health and a particularly high level of animal welfare in Lower Saxony, the young scientists group is working on issues such as heat stress in farm animals, the sustainability assessment of practical farms, the optimized keeping of laying hens (in mobile housing/with outdoor runs) and biocultural diversity within production systems. Further impulses and wishes from society regarding sustainable livestock farming are incorporated into the work of the junior research group through the use of “citizen science”.
