
The DIL is one of the three founding partners of ZERN and is responsible for the initial project in the grassland research area and the early-career research group “Micro- and Nanostructures of Food.” The DIL is also participating in the initial project in the livestock research area, with a focus on natural product chemistry. Additional projects involving the DIL have been added through the ZERN calls.

The University of Göttingen is one of ZERN’s three founding partners. It is involved in all three of ZERN’s initial projects. The early-career research group “Food Economics and Policy” is also based at the University of Göttingen, where it operates as a junior professorship. Through the ZERN calls, additional projects involving the University of Göttingen have been added.

The University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover is one of the three founding partners of ZERN; it is responsible for the initial project in the livestock sector titled “Future-Oriented Pig Farming” and the early-career research group “Sustainable Livestock Farming.” Additional projects involving TiHo have also been added through the ZERN calls for proposals.

The Thünen Institute is represented in ZERN by its two departments: the “Thünen Institute for Agricultural Technology (TI-AT)” and the “Thünen Institute for Wood Research (TI-HF).” Both are working on the subproject "Value-added material utilization of press residues from protein extraction from green biomass“ (abbreviated as ”Presswert").

The Centre for Sustainability Management (CSM) at the University of Lüneburg is a partner in the subproject "Identification of Food Pathways to Promote Legume Consumption," where it primarily investigates sustainable purchasing and consumption decisions and analyzes market dynamics that either promote or hinder sustainable consumption behavior.

Thanks to its many years of experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching on human eating behavior, as well as its research activities spanning the fields of nutrition science, psychology, education, and medicine, the Institute for Nutritional Psychology is a valuable partner and is directly involved in the consortium through one of our outreach projects, the “ZERN Future Talks.”
